At the moment, if i want something, I just buy it. There is no reference to a budget; no saving for things and no deference to say “i can’t afford this now”. That is a sure fire way to end up overspending and in debt. I need to become more thoughtful about how I spend my money, especially by checking whether I can afford what I want according to my current budget (letting the budget guide the decision) and if not, putting in place a category in YNAB to save towards that thing. Often though if i need books, I feel i need it in the moment, or a new pan in order to cook and those things can’t wait for two months. I will then have to do a combination of trade other things and save for it. That’s the only way not to break budget – to realise that money isn’t unlimited.
